Southern Ontario Fall 2006 Special Events

The end of the 2006 racing season is fast approaching in Southern Ontario. Most tracks have their big show to wrap up the season. The Labour Day weekend is particularly busy this year with racing fans having to make several hard choices on where to spend their time.

Brighton Speedway has its Labour Day Weekend double-header once again. Saturday night is the regular race program plus the Southern Ontario Sprints. Sunday starts with a pancake breakfast from 8:30am - 10:30am. There are events throughout the afternoon that include a Kid's Club BBQ, tailgate parties, autograph sessions and lawn tractor pulls. The racing begins again on Sunday night at 6:00pm with extra-lap features for Mini Stocks, Street Stocks and Canadian Modifieds. The SOS cars are also back for another night. Pete Bicknell will be at Brighton for the 358 Modified Shootout

Brighton will hold their second annual CARQUEST 358 Dirt Modified Applefest Shootout presented by ImageFactor.ca on September 23. Last year, eighteen 358 Modifieds came to Brighton and promoter Mark Rinaldi is expecting more for this year. The feature will be 40 laps.

The Shootout includes a separate race called the Lucas Oil Dash for Cash. The race is a 15 lap feature for 10 cars that pays a $5000 purse. The feature is for the top finishers in the Lucas Oil Canadian Series and the Lucas Oil 358 Shootout Series. The Lucas Oil Canadian Series is contested at Autodrome Granby, Autodrome Drummond, Autodrome Edelweiss, Brockville Speedway and Cornwall Speedway. The Lucas Oil 358 Shootout Series ran at Ransomville Speedway, Genesee Speedway, Merrittville Speedway, Humberstone Speedway and Ohsweken Speedway.

Brighton Speedway is a 1/3 mile clay oval located on County Road 64, just east of the town of Brighton.

Ohsweken Speedway will host the 2nd annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals on September 15-16. The Nationals is a Southern Ontario Sprints event that will also feature competitors from Sprints On Dirt, Empire Super Sprints, National Racing Alliance, the United Racing Company and the Patriot Sprint Group. Last year over 70 sprint cars showed up and the field will be even larger this year. As of August 24, there were 78 confirmed entries for this year. Ohsweken Speedway owner Glenn Styres is expecting over 100 entries.

Ohsweken is a 1/3 mile dirt track located on Chiefswood Road, near Ohsweken.

Brockville Ontario Speedway will be holding Sportsman and 358 Modified Super Dirt Series touring events on September 16.

The second annual Modified Run What Ya Brung Classic will be held on October 21-22. The card also includes the Rookie division and the Street Stocks.

Brockville is a 1/4 mile clay oval located on Highway 29, 6 miles north of Brockville.

Cornwall Speedway will be running a 100-lap 358 Modified Super Dirt Series event on September 3. On the same night there will also be a 50-lap Pro Stock feature and the Rookie Stock division.

Cornwall Speedway is a 1/4 mile clay oval located on Brookdale Avenue, near Exit 786 off Highway 401.

Cayuga Speedway will see one more event before major renovations take place. The Labour Day Weekend will feature the CASCAR Super Series, the CASCAR Sportsman Series and the Canadian Vintage Modifieds. Former Champ Car Series and Indy Racing League driver Patrick Carpentier will drive a Jacombs Racing entry in the Super Series race. This will be Carpentier's first time in a stock car.

Kawartha Speedway will host the final events of 2006 for the CASCAR Super Series and the CASCAR Sportsman Series. The Sportsman will run a 100 lap feature on Saturday September 16 with the 250 lap Super Series race on Sunday September 17. TheOntario Legends Series will be racing on Saturday as well. Kawartha Speedway is a 3/8 mile paved oval located on Highway 28 near Fraserville.


Barrie Speedway wraps up its season with the Barrie Speedway 4th Annual 500 Finale on September 23-24. Saturday will see 50 lap features for each of the Barrie Late Models, Thunder Cars, Pure Stocks and OSCAAR Super Late Models. The Junior Late Models will be also be racing. Sunday is for Invitiationals. There will be 50 lap features for each of the Late Models, Thunder Cars and Pure Stocks. The Canadian Vintage Modifieds and the Ontario Legends Series are also racing.

Barrie Speedway is a 1/3 mile paved oval located on the 8th Line of Oro-Medonte between Barrie and Orillia just off of Highway 11, 10 minutes north of Barrie

Flamboro Speedway hosts the annual Lucas Oil Oktoberfest Classic Weekend on September 30-October 1. Saturday afternoon sees qualifying for the OSCAAR Super Late Models, Late Models, Limited Late Models, Thunder Cars, Mini Stocks and Canadian Vintage Modifieds. There will be features for the Hurricane Midgets, F4's and the CVM All Star Clash. The remaining features will be run on Sunday with 100 laps for Late Models, 50 laps for OSCAAR, 50 laps for Limited Late Models, 40 laps for Thunder Cars amd 30 laps for each of the Mini Stocks and Canadian Vintage Modifieds.

Flamboro Speedway is a 1/3 mile paved oval located on Millgrove Road near Freelton.

Peterborough Speedway ends its season with the annual Autumn Colours Classic on October 7-8. Qualifying for the 4 Funs, Mini Stocks, Thunder Cars, Limited Late Models, Late Models, OSCAAR Super Late Models and Modifieds will be run on Saturday night. The Hurricane Midgets will run qualifying and their feature on Saturday. The other features will be on Sunday with 50 laps for OSCAAR, 106 laps for Late Models, 50 laps for Limited Late Models, 40 laps for Modifieds, 50 laps for Thunder Car "A", 25 laps for Thunder Car "B" and 40 laps for Mini Stocks.

Peterborough Speedway is a 1/3 mile paved oval located on Sherbrooke Street, just west of Peterbrough.

Sauble Speedway is also running a Labour Day Weekend special. It's regular racing on Saturday night with Twin 50's and then a 100-lap ALSTAR Late Model feature on Sunday.

Sauble Speedway is a 1/4 mile paved oval located 2.5 miles east of Sauble Beach on Bruce Road #14.


Delaware Speedway is racing on 3 days of the Labour Day Weekend with the Great Canadian Race Weekend. Regular racing on Friday night is followed by the Modifieds, Street Stocks and an Enduro on Saturday night. The weekend is topped off by the APC 300 - triple 100 lappers for Late Models.

Delaware Speedway is a 1/2 mile paved oval located on Gideon Drive, east of the town of Delaware.

South Buxton Raceway will finish the 2006 season with The Castrol Canadian Late Model Shootout on September 30. The race pays $6500 US to win with $350 to start the feature.

South Buxton is a 3/8 mile dirt ovallocated on A.D. Shadd Road (Highway 6), just south of the town of South Buxton.

Capital City Speedway completes the 2006 season on September 9 with a 100 Lap Late Model event. The feature pays $5000 to win. The night also includes a $1500 to win Legends race, a 100 lap Enduro, Monster Trucks, a trailer race, 4-4-Fun, Mini stocks and Thunder cars.

Capital City Speedway is a 3/8 mile paved ovallocated on Highway 7, west of Ottawa.

Mosport International Raceway hosts its biggest event of the year on road course with the Mobil 1 Labour Day Weekend Grand Prix of Mosport. The headline series is the American Le Mans Series. Supporting events are for SPEED World Challenge GT, SPEED World Challenge Touring, Star Mazda, Formula BMW and IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge.
