Here is John's
quick autobiography:
"I have
always been a race nut since I crawled up out of the crib. I
went to my first race when I was seven - a jalopy race at the
Delhi fairgrounds. From there it was an Austin Healey Sprite
and a Pontiac Firebird with the SOHC six cylinder engine and
the manual transmission. That car served as a tow car for my
Chinook Formula Vee. A Formula Vee was supposed to be the cheap
form of racing, but as many others have discovered, there is
no cheap form of racing. After spending the equivalent of a
down payment on a house and only winning dash plaques, I went
to the sidelines and watched racing instead of engaging in it.
However, when I found that I could write about racing and that
someone would publish what I wrote, I got into writing about
the sport I loved. Today, I write for three and sometimes four
US magazines and some Canadian publications. In addition, my
stories have appeared in the UK and in New Zealand. In addition
to writing, I like to go to car shows, cruise nights and races
in my 1965 Mustang Hypo. It's a California car with the 289/271
engine, with a four speed and heavy duty suspension." |
