Updates
April
5, 2006: Removed Riverview Speedway from the Possible
Ghost Tracks list. I have photos of the track and will post
them soon.
April 22, 2005: Removed Shannonville Raceway from the
Known Ghost Tracks list - I visited the site and will post
the photos.
November 12, 2004: Removed Wallace, Teviotdale, Model
T and Jackpot from the Known list. I have posted photos of
them.
October 11, 2004: Removed Grand River Speedway from the
"Possible" list. A reader e-mailed me to say that
the track existed until sometime in the 1990's when it was
finally cleaned up
August 26, 2004: Moved Jackpot Speedway from the "Possible"
to the "Known" list. A reader on the bulletin board
indicated that his father owns the property and many elements
of the track exist.
August 26, 2004: Removed Hockley Valley Speedway from
the "Possible" list as research indicates that it
was the same place as Mono Mills, which was previously removed.
August 14, 2004: Removed Dayus and The Ridge from "Known
Ghost Tracks". Ron from Windsor sent me photos of both.
They will appear on the site soon.
August 12, 2004: Moved Model T Speedway from the "Possible"
list to the "Known" list. A reader posted on the
discussion baord that the track surface is gone but the grandstands
remain.
May 23, 2004: Removed Cedar Mills and Petty Raceway. A
reader has sent me photos of both those tracks and they will
appear on this site soon.
April 9, 2004: Removed Mono Mills from the Possible Ghost
Tracks listing as I have been informed it is now the site
of Humber Springs Trout Hatchery
April 9, 2004: Removed Onslow Speedway from the Known
Ghost Tracks list. I have photos of it.
March 1, 2004: Removed Kingston Speedway from the list.
A reader e-mailed me to say that the track was turned into
a quarry after it closed in 1976
Jan 30, 2004: Removed Hide-A-Way Speedway from the list.
I found out that it closed in 1972 and reopened in 1973 as
a 1.2 mile off-road track called Kitchener International Raceway
Jan 6, 2004: Removed Welland County Speedway from this
list. In my research I discovered that this is the old name
for the Niagara Motorcycle Raceway which has been operating
since 1970 by the Welland
County Motorcycle Club.
Sept 9, 2003: The Ridge Raceway near Ridgetown
has been removed from the list. Steve sent me an e-mail telling
me that it is completely intact. It was used in 1952-1978
and then again from 1983-1995.
Sept 8, 2003: Nilestown has been removed from the list.
I received an e-mail (thanks Dan!) that Nilestown is now a
Polish Recreational Centre and pointed me to a web site. Sure
enough, there is a soccer field in the middle of the old track.
Sept 5, 2003: Bridgeport has been removed from the
list. I was informed that the remains existed until the early
1980's when the land was redeveloped for baseball fields.
Can't be called a "Ghost Track" any more.
